Why donations rather than a paid tier
A paid tier would mean deciding which tools to cripple. Watermarked invoices, a three-exports-a-day limit, WebP behind a paywall. Every one of those choices makes the free version worse on purpose, and the free version is the entire point.
Ads and donations avoid that. The ads are deliberately restrained: a few units, kept away from the tool controls so nobody clicks one by accident. Donations are entirely voluntary and unlock nothing, because there is nothing to unlock.
Where the money goes
Hosting and bandwidth
Static pages and a small database. The cheapest part, because the heavy work happens on your device.
Domain and certificates
Renewed yearly. Unglamorous and non-negotiable.
Time
Building the tools, writing the guides, and fixing what breaks.
Free ways to help
Donating is not the only option, and honestly not the most useful one. Telling somebody about a tool that saved you an afternoon does more. So does the thumbs-up at the bottom of each tool page, and an email when something is broken or missing — those two signals are what we actually use to decide what to build next.
