About Velra Tools

38 small utilities for people who run their own thing. Free, no signup, and your files stay on your device.

Why this exists

Every one of these tools already exists somewhere online. Most of those versions are unpleasant to use: three ad blocks above the tool, a signup wall after the second export, a watermark on the free tier, or a file upload where none is needed.

The specific thing that bothered us was the uploading. Converting a PDF to images or compressing a photo does not require a server. The browser has been able to do both for years. Sending a signed contract or a client’s brand assets to a stranger’s server to change a file format is a bad trade nobody should have to make.

So: the tool sits at the top of the page, it works before you sign in, and the file never leaves your machine.

How it works

The file tools use the Canvas API, Web Workers and the same PDF engine Firefox uses. Your file is read into browser memory, processed, and handed back as a download. There is no upload step. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tools still work.

The trade-off is honest: very large files are limited by your device’s memory rather than by a server farm, and a hundred-page PDF at print resolution takes a moment. We think that is a better deal than the alternative.

Signing in is optional

Every tool works fully without an account. Signing in with Google does exactly one thing: it saves your invoices, quotes, QR codes, palettes and UTM links so you can reopen them. We ask for your basic profile and email, nothing else, and we never see your password.

How it is funded

Ads and donations. That is the whole model, which is why there is no upsell three clicks in and no feature that stops working after a trial.

  • Advertising — a small number of unobtrusive units, placed away from the tool controls so nobody clicks one by accident.
  • Donations — entirely voluntary, via Ko-fi. Nothing is gated behind them.

We do not sell data. There is very little to sell: no file ever reaches us, and the only personal data we hold is what Google gives us when you choose to sign in.

What we are building next

Every completed tool run increments a counter. That is the only signal we use to decide what to work on, along with the thumbs-up and thumbs-down at the bottom of each page. If a tool is missing something, the fastest way to tell us is to get in touch.

Author

The guides and the calculators underneath them are written by Ashish S Kumar. Builds Velra Tools. Writes the deposit, salary and tax guides here, and the calculators underneath them. If something here is wrong — a slab, a threshold, a formula — say so and it gets fixed: hello@velra.tech.

Nothing on this site is personal financial advice. The calculators show what the published rules produce for the numbers you type in, which is not the same thing as knowing what you should do.

Images and figures

Header art on the guides is generated with an image model. Every chart, table and worked figure is computed by the same code that runs the calculators — no generated image on this site contains data, and none of them is a picture of a chart.
